Our family established Abbey Insurance LLC in 1999. We believe our community deserves an insurance agency that feels like one of their own. Based in Barnegat, NJ, Abbey has grown from a modest local agency to one of New Jersey's most trusted independent firms, serving clients from Cape May County to Bergen County and everywhere in between.
As an independent agency, we are not tied to any single insurance company — which means we work for you, not the carrier. We shop competitive carriers on every quote to find the right coverage at the right price.
Over 25 years, we have protected thousands of NJ families and businesses. We were there in October 2012 when Superstorm Sandy devastated our coastal community and 200+ of our clients needed us most. That's not a policy number. That's a relationship.

Herb McGee
Abbey Insurance LLC Founder
AKA Dad and Pop
Herb McGee founded Abbey Insurance LLC in 1999 with a dream to serve the people of NJ. Because of the work ethic instilled in him at a very young age, Herb was committed to success and to providing for all of those he loved. From helping his dad move logs down the river deep in the Upstate New York forests, to helping his mom look after the family lodge that hosted hundreds of skiers every year — Herb was always someone you could easily rely on.
A U.S. Army Veteran (and he claimed to be “The Secret Weapon”), Herb moved down to the NJ Shore with his family in the mid-80s with little money, but a whole lot of hope. Because of who he was, he immediately developed strong relationships and a reputation throughout Barnegat/Manahawkin and all of NJ.
To put it simply, Abbey Insurance LLC wouldn’t be where it is today without Herb. His work ethic lives on through his children, and you’ll feel it from the very first call. They answer the phone with a warm “Abbey Insurance, how can I help you?” — a small but meaningful tribute to the great Herb McGee.

Erin
Owner & Licensed Agent
Erin brings warmth, expertise, and an encyclopedic knowledge of NJ insurance markets to every client interaction. Her clients consistently describe her as someone who makes a complicated process feel completely manageable.
Chris
Owner, Auto & Claims Specialist
Chris specializes in auto insurance and claims navigation — two areas where his straightforward, client-first approach shines brightest. When a client has a claim, Chris is the one who picks up the phone and fights to make sure they're treated fairly.
